Budget-Friendly Superhero Birthday Party Ideas for Toddlers and Preschoolers
This superhero birthday party is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. Colorful decorations, a DIY coloring page backdrop, and easy activities make it a simple and memorable celebration.
When my son turned three, his one request was a superhero birthday party. He loves all the characters, so instead of choosing Marvel or DC, we included them all. The colors leaned more toward Marvel, but the setup worked for every hero. The party was simple, colorful, and affordable to create.
Our Superhero Color Scheme
We chose red, blue, yellow, white, and black. These colors are easy to find in most stores and mix well with any superhero decorations.

Party Supplies We Used and Loved
White Tablecloths. I first bought these for Thanksgiving and have reused them many times. They wash well and still look new.
Capes and Masks. These were a big hit with the kids. Some are reversible, so check the listing before buying.
Tablecloth Clips. These kept everything in place, which is especially helpful with little ones moving around.
Parachute. This activity entertained the children for a long time and works well for toddlers and preschoolers.
Markers - Washable!
Balloons - I got ours from a party store, but these are a similar color scheme, plus orange.
Superhero Party Invitation (Canva Template). Click, edit, and it is ready to send.
DIY Superhero Backdrop
The Pictures
Pinterest has endless inspiration for superhero backdrops. For ours, I printed free superhero coloring pages and attached them together to form one large sheet. It gave the party table a bold comic book look without spending much. I don’t have the ability to link to them directly, but check out my board to find some of the links to some free coloring pages.
The Name
There are two ways you can make the Marvel inspired name in the center of the backdrop.
If you have Canva Pro, you can pop in your email and the link will take you to the editable template!
2. If you don’t have Canva Pro, you can just follow these instructions on the free version to replicate the template.
Simply open a new document and type in your child’s name in a text box.
Use the font IMPACT in all caps and the size 480.
Make sure the font is white.
Now you’ll just copy and paste the child’s name on multiple pages so that you can print off the document and have all the letters available to cut out.
Then just cut out the letters and paste them onto red paper!
Coloring Table Runner
I made a table runner from the same coloring pages. Markers were placed along the table so the kids could color during the party. This worked as both a decoration and an activity. I just scattered some markers on the table to encourage coloring.
Parachute Play for Toddlers
The parachute is such a great addition to a toddler party. We played “popcorn” by tossing soft balls on top and shaking them. Another game was calling out superhero names and having the kids run under the parachute when they heard their favorite.
Final Thoughts
This superhero party was bright, interactive, and inexpensive. Combining DIY elements with a few purchased decorations kept the cost low while still making the day special. Whether your child prefers Marvel, DC, or a mix of both, these ideas can work for any superhero celebration.
