Lego Themed Party for 5-Year-Olds | Easy DIY Backdrop Idea
My husband and I grew up playing with Lego. Some of my favorite childhood memories are of my siblings and I staying in our pajamas and sitting on the floor for hours playing for hours. The last few years I've been collecting a stash of Lego for my kids to play with when they're old enough, and the time has finally come!
We waited until our oldest sons fifth birthday to get any "little Lego". After nannying for a long time, I felt like that was the perfect age. Typically before 5 Lego is too frustrating and doesn't hold their attention long enough for the mess to be worth it. I have to say, I think five was the perfect age, and it's everything we hoped it would be, jammies and all.

Since our son has been begging to get some forever, it was easy enough to convince him to have a lego themed party. He didn't know about our secret stash, and when we pulled it out it was a lot more than I remembered. He also got so many sets from his party. During the party the kids played with Lego, watched Lego shows, and decorated their Lego glasses from their goodie bags. The birthday boy had an amazing day, and that's all that matters.
Here's a list of some of the items I ordered from amazon:
1. Lego glasses
5. Yellow Cups
For decorations we had primary colors for the table cloth, plates, cups, napkins, etc. I used our Duplo to make napkin holders and silverware holders. The cups were yellow and then I added Lego mini figure faces. The way I did that was by printing the faces on sticker paper and then cutting them out. Since then, I’ve purchased a Cricut! I made my own version of these faces that you can easily send to Cricut Design Space to print then cut, or print on black Vinyl. Get the Printable for $1 below. I printed them on sticker paper and put them on yellow cups. This is my favorite sticker paper!
I also printed name tags for each guest that was in the font of the Lego logo. I put these sticker prints on the goodie bags and cups. Inside the goodie bags we had these fun Lego glasses, Lego temporary tattoos, and yum earth gummy bears (dye-free!). I can't recommend the tattoos, as they came off right away, but these glasses were a hit!
The Lego Brick Backdrop
My favorite decoration was the giant Lego wall art. I bought poster board and dessert paper plates to make those. I taped/tacked them to the wall. At some point I hope to make a tutorial, but for now its simple enough to explain.
Start by laying the paper plates out on the poster boards and marking where you’re going to cut the poster board.
Arrange the bricks to form one big square.
Tape the bricks together from the back. This part really doesn’t have to be perfect. As a whole, they will look good even if they aren’t perfectly square or the cuts are a little wonky.
Hang up the poster boards and then tape the paper plates to the coordinating bricks.
You can get these supplies from just about any craft store or the dollar store, but I’ll also link the supplies here.
Finally, for the cake and cupcakes we added a knight and dragon. The wrapping paper for our gifts (as well as some I wrapped from out of town family) was just plain white, and then I printed Lego images onto more of my sticker paper.
